Huia Sauvignon Blanc 2023

  • Any Sauvignon Blanc fan looks to the grape variety to deliver a crisp, refreshing and delicious mouthful of vino — and the 2023 vintage of the Huia Sauvignon Blanc delivers on those expectations.

    While retaining the herbaceous, bell pepper characteristics, the Huia Sauvignon Blanc balances that profile with tropical notes and textural weight that make this a perfect pairing for food. This is down to 45% of the grapes fermenting in neutral oak.

  • Sauvignon Blanc can prove problematic to pair a wide range of food to. It’s crisp, fresh qualities mean the acid expression feels very dominant and sometimes that can be a hard one to pair.

    The Huia, having undergone that little bit of neutral oak ferment, is a more rounded, less acidic affair. While still super fresh this wine has a lovely weight and mouth feel that lend a helping hand when pairing food.

    So, slice a wedge of Gouda or shuck yourself a salty oyster or perhaps even get stuck into a creamy hummus with a sprinkle of za’atar, this little of wine will stack up nicely.

Huia Chardonnay 2022

  • Chardonnay is one of the most planted wine varieties on the planet. You guys love it and so do we.

    Historically, Marlborough hasn’t been heralded as a Chardonnay region but we believe it’s one of most underrated performers. The sub-regional elements now evident with some of the older vines reveal complexities that delight.

    This particular example from our own Huia home block is 100% certified organic and shares rich stone fruit and citrus flavours that combine with a silky creamy texture. Layers of ripe fruit and a hint of vanilla finish soft and silky.

  • This is a versatile wine and pairs equally well with a punchy, fragrant soft cheese as it does with a serious charcuterie platter of coppa and bressaola.

    Naturally, it’s a doozy for white fish but one our all time favourites is premium tinned sardines popped on freshly toasted sour dough bread with lashings of butter, a decent handful of ripped Italian parsley and a goodly pinch of salt

Huia Pinot Noir 2020

  • The Huia Pinot Noir gets a lot of TLC. It spends the first year in A mix of new and older French oak barrels developing flavours and complexity after which it is racked off and popped into neutral oak vats for a further 11 months. Only then, once it’s relaxed and matured a little, is it bottled and sent to market.

    This time is important for a Marlborough Pinot Noir. We always have the gift of a lot of fruit flavour in this beautiful region. To make our Pinot sing it needs some time to tone down all that fruit thus making a more intriguing flavour and palate experience.

    You’ll find ripe tannins welcome food but the fruitfulness still shines through.

  • Pinot Noir is a magical red wine when it comes to matching with food.

    Robust enough to stack up to a game dish, Pinot Noir is also elegant enough to sidle up to a lovely piece of baked white fish or even a salad — just don’t go too hard on the vinaigrette! Those acids will potentially fight a little with the softer tannins of the wine.

    We’re big on chargrilled peppers or aubergine, garlic and tahine matched with our Pinot Noir.

    If you’re sticking to your knitting, a roast lamb with mint jelly and roasted potatoes will be just perfect too. Enjoy!

Winemaker, Josh Lee may have big shoes to fill but his experience in making delicious wine around Aotearoa along with the romantic climes of places like Spain, Germany and Greece, we know he’s one foot stomp away from making his own mark and we couldn’t be more excited. To make Josh feel at home we asked him a bunch of questions to get to know him better.
